The fourth Ankara International Jazz
Festival, presented by the Ankara Jazz Association, will bring many
remarkable musicians from Turkey and all around the world to our city
this month. The Festival will take place from November 15 to November
26, and will include concerts, dance shows, panels and jam sessions. The
concerts will be held at the Bilkent University Concert Hall, the METU
Culture and Congress Center, the Hacettepe University Culture Center and
the French Cultural Institute.
The festival opens with
a performance by the Air Force Command Big Band at the Bilkent Concert
Hall at 8:30 p.m. on November 15. Turkish jazz masters Elvan Aracı on
trombone and Erol Erdinç on piano and Sibel Köse, one of Turkey's
leading jazz vocalists, are the featured soloists. On the fourth day of
the festival, percussionist Burhan Öçal takes the stage at METU with
jazz pianist George Gruntz and trumpeter Matthieu Michel. Öçal's playing
combines elements from many different music genres, from classical and
ethnic jazz to traditional Turkish folk music.

coming out to Ankara from other countries include the Peter King Quartet
from Britain, Eberhard and Reto Webber from Switzerland, Lica Cecato
from Brazil and Gianluigi Trovesi and Gianni Coscia from Italy.
