Burak Tokcan’s Poetry Wins
Award |
Burak Tokcan, Writer and Content Administrator at the Publications Office,
has recently been awarded the Jury Special Award from the Cemal Süreya Poetry
Competition. Organized by the Cemal Süreya Culture and Arts Foundation, the Cemal Süreya
Poetry Awards are conferred in memory of Cemal Süreya, (1931 - 1990) one of the most
important poets in Turkish Literature.
Tokcan graduated from the Department of Management in 2001. His interest in poetry began
when he was a student at Bilkent University and grew when he joined the editorial board of
4 Mevsim, an art, culture and literature magazine of the time published by the
faculty of Humanities and Letters. His poems have been published in several literary
magazines such as 4 Mevsim, Kıyı, Damar, Beşparmak, Gökyüzü, Çağdaş Türk
Dili, Ünlem, Yom Sanat, Evrensel Kültür, Patika, Dünya Kitap and Koridor.
Tokcan, who has received six other national poetry awards including the First Place Award
from the Rıfat Ilgaz Poetry Competition in 2004, received the Cemal Süreya Jury Special
Award for his unpublished work "Sesim Kan Kaybediyor" comprised of thirty-one
poems.
