THE VOICE

WELCOME BACK

It is nice to see you all again. I hope that this will be my last welcome back to you. It is a little sad to think this will be my last term but still, it is very exciting for me. This is my sixth year as an undergraduate student at Bilkent and I loved being here but I think everybody needs a change. So I hope we all have a great term without failures and full of success!

On the way back to Bilkent, I had a short look at Biletix to find out if there are any interesting events waiting us for the beginning of the second term. I found three different and attractive events. Also there are others and I strongly recommend you check the Biletix web site if you are interested in the theater and plays.

The first event, which seemed appealing, was a jazz event. On February 1, this Thursday, at Swissotel you can listen to an interesting combo: Sertab Erener and Sabri Tuluğ Tırpan. Sabri Tuluğ Tırpan is a Turkish pianist who lives in Austria and is considered as a master of the crossover style, which is a term used for uniting two different styles of music in one. For example, taking an old song and changing the lyrics and adapting it to new music styles. The concert is actually called SertabCaz@Ankara. The combo will perform jazz and many different Turkish and English songs. The concert will cost 25 YTL, which is not a very high price with respect to other events on the calendar.

On February 2 and 3, Anadolu Ateşi is at the Anatolia Showland. Tickets for this show range from 45 to 65 YTL. Most of you may have seen the show but for those who haven't seen it, the show is a composition of Turkish folkloric dances from all over Turkey, which are brought to the audience as a modernized dance show. It is spectacular to watch. I had the opportunity to see it three years ago and it was wonderful. I have heard that they are changing their composition each year while keeping the essentials the same. But I am not sure if you have can expect a very different show if you plan to go for the second time. I tried to check their web site and couldn't find any other information.

On February 10, again at the Anatolia Showland, Ata Demirer will do a stand up show. After a one-year break he will entertain his audience with a renewed show with the same concepts as before.

Also, I strongly suggest that everyone look at the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra's web page and check their concert schedule, and try to go at least once in a month because it is an excellent opportunity to fill your soul with beautiful music.
So, I hope you all have a nice starting week!
