An Exploration of the “Essential, Pure and Direct”

The first painting exhibition of 2007 at the Bilkent University Library Art Gallery opened with a reception on February 8. The opening reception was a chance for the Bilkent University community to experience the abstract paintings and meet the participating painters. Abstract paintings of 24 well-known Turkish artists provide the exhibition with a rare theme, and the paintings are presented with the title "Essential, Pure, Direct" (Öz, Yalın, Dolaysız). Art consultant of the Art Gallery, Attila Güllü, reports that "abstraction" is a way to represent the world in its essential, purest, and most direct way. This is why they have chosen this title for the collection.

He also adds that when you see this wide collection of paintings, you will have a chance to sense a visual richness and diversity, the likes of which you have never seen before.

Paintings by Abidin Dino, Abidin Elderoğlu, Ali Asgar Çakmakcı, Aynur Okay, Burhan Doğançay, Cemal Bingöl, Erdal Alantar, Güngör Taner, Habip Aydoğdu, Halil Akdeniz, Ilgım Veryeri, İsmail Ateş, Lütfü Günay, Mehmet Örs, Mustafa Salim Aktuğ, Nazan Günay, Necmettin Özlü, Ömer Uluç, Özdemir Altan, Serdar Arat, Şeniz Aksoy, Tansel Türkdoğan, Zafer Gençaydın and Zekai Ormancı can be seen in the Bilkent University Library Art Gallery daily between 10:30 a.m. and 8 p.m., until March 6.
