Taekwondo for Physical and
Mental Fitness |
The Physical Education and Sports Center offers Taekwondo courses for those interested in
the martial arts. Originating in an ancient sport, Taekwondo (also written as "tae
kwon do," "taekwon-do" or "t'aegwondo") is a modern martial art
from Korea characterized by fast and high kicks.
Taekwondo seeks to promote physical fitness, to improve mental discipline and emotional
balance, to teach self-defense skills and to develop a sense of responsibility for one's
self and for others. The combination of physical, mental and cultural features in this
sport is one of its greatest attractions for many students.
Taekwondo courses are held at the Student Dormitories Sports Hall on Mondays and Wednesdays
from 5:30-7:30 p.m. In addition to Taekwondo, the Center offers Wing
Tsun, Aikido and Capoeira courses for those who are interested in martial arts.
