Bilkent Researchers on the
Cover of Nanotechnology
Hilmi Volkan Demir's Research
Group achieved solid-state white light generation using nanocrystal hybridization on light
emitting diodes, with tunable color properties for the first time in the world. The
article "White Light Generation Using CdSe/ZnS Core-Shell Nanocrystals Hybridized
with InGaN/GaN Light Emitting Diodes" by Demir's group members Sedat Nizamoğlu,
Tuncay Özel, Emre Sarı, and Dr. Hilmi Volkan Demir is highlighted as a featured article
on the hard cover of the prestigious journal NANOTECHNOLOGY (vol. 18, no. 6 in the issue
of 14 February 2007). NANOTECHNOLOGY is the first journal dedicated to all aspects of the
cutting-edge nanoscale science and technology from a multidisciplinary perspective and
currently one of the top journals at the forefront of nanoscience and nanotechnology.
Asst. Prof. Demir is working at the Department of Physics and the Department of Electrical
and Electronics Engineering; his research group and labs are located at the Nanotechnology
Research Center and Advanced Research Laboratory. (continues)A Sensitive Exhibition from
TDP
TDP (Toplumsal Duyarlılık Projeleri / Community Projects) started the new semester with
a beautiful exhibition displaying children's hand-made works, pictures and photographs.
The exhibition, now on display next to the exhibition hall in FFB-22 (Faculty of Art,
Design and Architecture), will run until February 23. The works and pictures are all made
by the children during the workshops in the many schools around Ankara where TDP
volunteers. TDP volunteers
will be on hand at the exhibition to answer questions from interested Bilkenters. Their
purpose in opening an exhibition is to introduce all of the students to the work done by
TDP and to gain the attention of people interested in their work. They expect everyone
interested in community oriented activities to join them and work together.

conflicts between concepts including reality versus illusion and feminine versus
masculine.

“Scream” Captures
Stress of Finals
Black and white photographs from Murad Gürzümar and his students depicting the stress
and turmoil associated with finals and the end of term are featured in an exhibit called
“Scream.”
The images are powerful and stark as sleepless nights; half remembered lectures, furiously
scribbled notes and looming exams take their toll on the subjects in the photos.
Murad Gürzümar, an instructor in the Graphic Design Department organized the exhibit
featuring 54 photographs from 47 students taking GRA 225, Introduction to Visual
Techniques. The exhibit runs until February 21, and can be visited at the
Siyah & Beyaz art gallery. Gallery hours are: 11 a.m. to 7
p.m.
