THE VOICE

Welcome to Real Life!

Firstly, I want to apologize for my absence in last week's issue; I hope that we will be able to be together for the rest of this year. For the newcomers to Bilkent, I want to congratulate them for entering into one of the most challenging educations offered in the world and wish them good luck this semester. And for those who are back, I am sure they have learned the rules: have fun and do not forget to study.

I hope that this will be my last year for my undergraduate education, and I want to share some of my experiences to help all of you.

Dear Friends,

Life is very short and university life is even shorter (I hope so :)). Your life at university has a very, very fast rhythm, which may be difficult to follow. So, do not spend time on becoming sad due to a bad note, react, instead of losing your courage, by finding what you have done wrong and changing it. Or, if you had to leave some of your friends behind in your life, or even the one that you have loved the most, accept this truth and participate, socialize and try to become more adult. Because I have realized that when you spend your time on just having sadness you just feel stuck and you are not able to move forward: you are glued to your past. So maybe for me, and for those who agree with me, this year's most useful idea will be: ACCEPT and MOVE FORWARD.

Another interesting suggestion from me to all Bilkenters is: find a way to help those who have fewer chances than us. In the university we have an excellent society that realizes "Toplumsal Duyarlılık Projeleri". They help others in many ways. By joining them, or if you want, by using your own ways, try to help others. Because in my opinion this concept of "helping others" is lacking in people. And I think that most of us see helping others as just donating money, toys or clothes. But I think that we must also try to donate some of our precious time. Then maybe the country that we are living in will have a more cohesive society.

After all these suggestions, I want to hear from those who have suggestions for THE VOICE to send me an e-mail whenever you want. Because this is our column and I want your ideas to be shared with Bilkenters too. I hope each of us will have an excellent term!

GOOD LUCK :)
