Case Bilkent 2007: Communication with Bilkent Graduates

The Case Bilkent competition took place on February 18. The competition, organized by the Operational Research Club, was a great experience for both the teams participating and the audience. The participants enjoyed a taste of business life and the audience learned about the case studies that most engineering, management and economics students might encounter in their work lives.

This year's case subject was on communicating with Bilkent graduates. Eight teams were selected from the application pool to present their studies. They conducted research, analyses, and suggested solutions for the current situation. Every team gave excellent presentations making it difficult for the jury to choose a winning team.
The teams presented many suggestions such as a required GE coded orientation course for soon-to-be graduates, establishing an alumni club where graduates can meet and spend time together, establishing a student community under Bilmed (Bilkent Mezunlar Derneği) and designing a web portal where graduates and students can connect. The winning team focused on the students and the essence of Bilkent - an approach that interested the jury. The winning team (Göze İşcan IE/III, Cansu Zorluer IE/III, Aslıgül Serasu Duran IE/II, Nihan Özulu IE/II) announced by the Chairman of the Industrial Engineering Department, Professor İhsan Sabuncuoğlu, expressed their ideas to Bilkent News, "After reading the case, trying to make improvements in the communication between the graduates and the university made us forget about the competition. This belief and the desire to do something good for Bilkent helped us to win."

Yeşim Şağban (IE/III)
