Bilkent Model UN Society: Understanding the World

Established only 3 years ago, the Bilkent Model United Nations Society has become the most prestigious in Turkey, with more than 50 members participating in international conferences each year. Although the concept of a Model UN suggests it is for international relations majors, the Society does attract students from a variety of backgrounds, including science, engineering, management and fine arts.

The goal is to promote the ideals of the United Nations: strengthening global peace and stability by teaching future generations to understand different views while endorsing diplomacy. The Society also helps students develop communication, linguistic and presentation skills. If you are looking to bring an international relations dimension to your area of study, this may be of interest to you.

The Bilkent MUN Society has participated in conferences such as the Harvard World MUN in Edinburgh, Catalonia; MUN in Barcelona (where they received the most successful delegation award this year), MUNTR in Ankara and İstanbul; Sabancı University MUN in İstanbul; the Turkish International MUN Youth Assembly in İstanbul, and The Hague International MUN Youth Assembly in The Hague.

This March, the Bilkent MUN Society will cosponsor the MUNTR Platform's Model Conference in Ankara, (visit http://www.muntr.org for details) in cooperation with the UN Office in Turkey. In addition, Bilkent MUN members will take part in the East- West Dialogue conference this November in Barcelona. In attendance will be prominent politicians and academics from around the world.

If you are interested in taking part, visit the Bilkent Model United Nations Society stand in front of the "A" building next week, or join their mailing list at www.bilkentmun.org and stay updated with the latest announcements.
