The Department of Philosophy will host an international workshop entitled "Clashes between Civilizations." Dean Prof. Metin Heper (FEASS) will give the opening address. Speakers include six guests, and four members of the Department of Philosophy. Dr. Lars Vinx (PHIL) is the coordinator.
Participants will offer a critical reappraisal of the clash of civilizations thesis by discussing problems such as the legitimacy of the use of force in international conflicts, the possibility of inter-cultural understanding, the problem of inter-cultural tolerance, and the ideological background to religious extremism.
The workshop will take place in room G-160. It will start Friday, March 28 at 9 a.m. and continue until late afternoon. On Saturday, March 29, it will start at 9:30 a.m. and end at noon. All Bilkent students and faculty are warmly invited to attend.
