Bilkent's Center for Turkish Literature is holding Turkey's first "Evliya Çelebi Symposium," April 3 to 5.
Evliya Çelebi's works include poetry, drama, fiction, essays, and travel writing, and have been translated into many languages. The Çağının Sıra Dışı Yazarı ve Eseri: Uluslararası Evliya Çelebi ve Seyahatname Sempozyumu, will begin on Thursday, April 3, at 9:30 p.m., in the Mithat Çoruh Auditorium.
Opening speeches will be made by Prof. Halil İnalcık and Prof. Metin And; the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Letters, Prof. Talat Halman; and Prof. Robert Dankoff.
The rest of the event will be held in the FEASS C-Block Auditorium and is open to all who are interested. In total, there will be 36 presentations by 13 international and 23 Turkish speakers including: Prof. Dr. Pierre MacKay (from the US); Prof. Dr. Jean Louis Bacqué-Grammont (from France); Prof. Dr. Gisela Prochazka-Eisl (from Austria); Prof. Dr. Claudia Römer (from Austria); Prof. Dr. Claus Schönig (from Germany); Prof. Dr. Ferah Hüseynova (from Azerbaijan); Prof. Dr. Feridun Emecen; Prof. Dr. Musa Duman; Dr.Yücel Dağlı; Assoc. Prof. İbrahim Sezgin, Sabri Koz, and Seyit Ali Kahraman (from Turkey).
