Professor İhsan Doğramacı turns 93 on April 3, 2008. We wish Hoca Bey many happy
returns of his birthday!
Vienna Moot Competition Promotes Arbitration
Members of Bilkent University's Faculty of Law travelled to Vienna for
the "15th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot," held March
14 to 20. Coaches Aslı Elif Gürbüz and Ceren Ünal, fourth year law students Pınar
Çağlayan, Mustafa Durakoğlu, Utku Kerem Kırklar, and Öncü Serter, and third year law
student Derya Durlu all took the journey to the annual competition, along with over one
thousand students from 52 countries and 203 universities!(continues)
Bilkent to Hold Evliya Çelebi Symposium
Bilkent's Center for Turkish Literature is
holding Turkey's first "Evliya Çelebi Symposium," April 3 to
5.
Evliya Çelebi's works include poetry, drama, fiction, essays, and travel writing, and
have been translated into many languages. The Çağının Sıra Dışı Yazarı ve
Eseri: Uluslararası Evliya Çelebi ve Seyahatname Sempozyumu, will begin on Thursday,
April 3, at 9:30 p.m., in the Mithat Çoruh Auditorium. (continues)
Zlin Soup Garnished with Film Festival Honors
Akile Nazlı Kaya, a 2003 graduate of Bilkent's Department of Graphic Design, has won the
"Best Short Film in Animation" award at the 19th Ankara International Film
Festival, held March 13 to 23. Her film, Zlinska Polevka (Zlin Soup), has also been
awarded 3rd prize at the 2007 Aerokratas Short Film Competition in Prague, and received a
special mention from the jury at the 2008 Early Melons International Student Film Festival
in Bratislava. After graduating from Bilkent, Kaya continued her education in the Czech
Republic at Zlin Film School's Graphic Design and Animated Film Program. She is currently
working in Prague as a freelance graphic designer and animator.

Publicly Redefining International Relations
The “International Relations and Media” class is being
instructed by Radikal daily newspaper's Ankara bureau representative, Murat Yetkin. This
is a new elective course being offered this semester by the Department of International
Relations. The class fuses these two distinct concepts in an academic setting for the
first time in Turkey: a move many say is already too late.
Unlike most courses, which seek to prepare students for the real world by
"operationalizing" standard theory, Mr. Yetkin's course offers an academic
conceptualization of an existing real-world practice. (continues)
GRA Graduates
Among Kırmızı Awards
This years Hürriyet Newspaper’s Kırmızı Journal Advertisement Award
recipients have been announced, and Bilkent's Graphic Design Department graduates have
shown that they have what it takes to sway a customer with their award winning
contributions. There was competition in thirty one journal advertisement categories, with
five technical fields: short advertisement text, long advertisement text, art director,
and illustration and advertisement photographs. (continues)
