Ali Alizadeh, an Instructor in BUSEL’s Faculty Academic English Program, has written a novel - “The New Angel” - which will be published in June 2008 (Transit Lounge Publishing, Australia). This is Iranian-born Alizadeh's first novel and is keenly awaited in Alizadeh's home country of Australia. The novel has been noted in “The Age” newspaper as one of the "highly fancied debuts" for 2008.
“The New Angel” is the story of Bahram and Fereshteh (Persian for angel), two adolescents growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution and the Iran-Iraq War. Bahram and Fereshteh's burgeoning love meets with the growing fundamentalism they find themselves engulfed in, with devastating consequences. Australian author, George Papaellinas has described “The New Angel” as "at once provocative and enjoyable, an explosive debut novel that is destined to divide opinion."
Alizadeh is also a writer of poetry, criticism and plays, and his work has been hailed by critics as "eclectic, passionate and compelling." His other books include: "Eyes in Times of War" (Salt Publishing, 2006), "Fifty Poems of Attar" (with Kenneth Avery, re.press, 2007), and "eliXir:a story in poetry" (Grendon Press, 2002).
