In
November 1995, Bilkent University hosted the Turkish Internet Conference. It was during
the early and rather problematic days of Turkish Internet, when the entire country's
connection was just 64 kilobytes. The original gathering brought together parties to
discuss problems and search for solutions.
The conference makes a return to Bilkent between November 8 to 10
in the Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture. The theme is "Internet and
Society," and the slogan is "Towards an Information Society." There will be
seminars, panel discussions, and paper presentations on all aspects of the internet,
e-government and information society. There will be sessions on e-learning, internet
advertisements, censorship, IPTV, internet-society-culture-participation, internet
journalism, Open Course ware, and Information Society. The Turkish Internet Conference is
free, and open to all who are interested. A detailed program can be found at http://inet-tr.org.tr/, and
registration via the web is requested.
