Jazz up your Life: The International Ankara Jazz Festival turns 11!

jazz.jpg (20900 bytes)It's that time of the year again- the 11th International Ankara Jazz festival takes place between November 15 and 17. The title is "Musical Warming" and the main theme this time around is 'Big Band'. With reasonable ticket prices and a wide range of artists, everyone should be able to attend at least one concert during the festival!

As always, there is an impressive line up of artists: Seventeen year old saxophone player Francesco Cafiso is coming from Italy; French pianist Leila Olivesi will be here with her band; The Belchior Trio from Spain, and Ladysmith Black Mambazo from South Africa help make this festival truly international. Turkish musicians are well represented with Gevede, the Turkish Air Force Jazz Orchestra, TRT, Kerem Görsev, and Sibel Köse scheduled to perform.

I admit, the music scene in Ankara has become slightly better since last year when I wrote an article announcing the 10th International Ankara Jazz Festival and talked about how "Ankara is not a city known for its music scene." I've definitely noticed an increase in concerts lately. But still, there are only a few decent places that feature live jazz regularly, and even then, it's usually the same people playing the same repertoire. So this festival really is the one time in the year that we can enjoy a variety of quality jazz music. Head on over to http://www.ankaracaz festivali.org, check out the schedule, and go to www.biletix.com to purchase tickets.
