Bulls Eye for Bilkent Alumni!

girismen.jpg (16325 bytes) Bilkent Graduate Gizem Girişmen (MAN 04'), a member of the Turkish National Archery Team, enjoyed success at the 2007 IPC (International Paralympic Committee) Archery World Championships. This event is the largest and most significant of the year, with competitors coming from around the world to participate. Winners receive medals, and are guaranteed a place in the 2007 International Rankings, and the Paralympics.

Girişmen has done well in the past few years, placing 3rd in the 2006 European Tournament (with the highest score during the ranking rounds), and 1st at the Czech IPC International Archery Tournament in 2007. In the IPC Archery World Championship, she placed 9th during the elimination rounds. Her teammates did just as well, with Gülbin Su placing 3rd in the Women's Compound Open and the Women's Compound Open Team Competitions.

Given her excellent performance, Girişmen is expecting great results in March when the quota for the 2007 International Rankings, and the Paralympics are announced. When asked about her future plans, she said: "I would like to continue our success at the World Championships and ultimately sing our national anthem at the Paralympics."
