Orienteering is a sport where participants follow a specified course using a map
and compass. This course consists of a previously determined set of points, called
controls, which orienteers must find in a given order, in the shortest possible time. The
controls are marked on a provided map, and competitors must use their map reading and
orientation skills to determine the best route to take from one control to the next.
On November 11, orienteers from Bilkent University participated in
their first official competition in Ankara, organized by the Turkish Orienteering
Federation. Ayşe Gültekin (TRIN/III) and Müge Artar (CHEM/II) ranked first and second
respectively in the Open Category.
Ayşe has been practicing orienteering through the activities of Doğa Sporları
Topluluğu (DOST), and Müge is enrolled in the PE155 Mountaineering course being
offered this semester, taught by Mehmet Genç and Meral Koşma.
