First, we would like to inform you that this week we are commemorating one of Bilkent's important and influential academics; the late Prof. Stanford J. Shaw. On Monday, December 1, the Library held a ceremony in recognition of the 10,000 books, journals and reprints donated to the University by Prof. Shaw and his wife Ezel Kural Shaw. We are extremely grateful to the Shaw's for contributing to our collection. As part of this commemoration, Dr. Mehmet Kalpaklı, chair of the History Department, organized a special panel, "Eserleriyle Prof. Dr. Stanford J. Shaw," with contributions by faculty from Bilkent and other universities.
Secondly, we are pleased to invite all to the third and final lunchtime lecture of the semester. On Wednesday, December 3, the assistant director of the Bilkent Computer Center, C. Uğur Ayfer, will give a lecture entitled "Surviving the Hostile Internet." In this talk, Mr. Ayfer will describe the never-ending battle between malware programmers and anti-virus programmers, and will offer some expert advice on how to survive as a user of the virus-contaminated internet environment. As usual, the lecture will be in English and refreshments will be supplied. Don't forget to come to the Library Art Gallery on Wednesday at 12:40 p.m. to hear this interesting lecture.
Finally, the Bilkent University Library is committed to providing a work environment that is both comfortable and inviting, but also conducive to study and research. In order to accommodate users who need a place for individual study and reading, certain areas in the Library have now been designated as "Quiet Zones":
- A-Block, 2nd Floor
- A-Block, Bound Journals Room

- Cell-phones must be switched to silent mode.
- Laptops and any music devices must not be used.
- No eating is allowed.
- Disruptive behavior may result in you being asked to leave the Library.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation in following this new policy.
