The first anniversary of Bilkent Erzurum Concert Hall will be celebrated on December 16 at 7 p.m. with a Bilkent Symphony Orchestra Concert directed by Gürer Aykal.
The Hall opened on December 14, 2007 with a performance by the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra which was also directed by Gürer Aykal on that occasion. The Bilkent Erzurum Concert Hall is in the İhsan Doğramacı Foundation Bilkent Laboratory School, founded as the first part of an education project by Bilkent in Eastern Anatolia. In the Hall, pianists and concert goers alike enjoy the first Steinway concert piano in Erzurum. The Bilkent Symphony Orchestra performs regular concerts at the Hall. Featured soloists have included Gülsin Onay, İdil Biret, Ayşegül Sarıca, Mischa Maisky, Emre Elivar, Toğrul Ganioğlu, and Hayreddin Hoca, while guest conductors have been Işın Metin, Klaus Weise, Emil Tabakov, and Anu Tali.
The anniversary event will consist of Türk Beşleri, Ulvi Cemal Erkin's "Sinfonietta," and one of the most significant representatives of Vienna's classical history, Haydn's famous “G Major, 100th Symphony,” being played in Bilkent Erzurum Concert Hall.
