On February 25, the second games of the 6th Ayva Cup were played at Bilkent University's Main Sports Hall. Eight universities from two cities are still in the running for the Cup, including Bilkent, Başkent, Hacettepe, Middle East Technical, Boğaziçi, İstanbul Technical, Koç and Sabancı Universities.
The first challenge of the evening was between Bilkent and Hacettepe's women's teams. Bilkent had a pretty good first half; however they couldn't cope with Hacettepe's tough defense. Although Bilkent was creative in offense and worked hard, their efforts fell short as Hacettepe won the game 77 to 51. Next up was Bilkent's men's team who also took on Hacettepe. Both teams started the game with solid defense strategies while they were offered in-field scores in the front. Bilkent showed good performance in handling Hacettepe's attacks, however the team's offense was not as effective in generating points. Despite giving it their all and putting on a good show for supporters, Bilkent failed to win the game with a final score of 72 to 51.
After the game, Coach Kağan Eynak stated that Bilkent won the 4th Ayva Cup and they are hoping to climb to the top again. Since Inter-University Category "C" Tournaments are on the way, this tournament offered a great chance to figure out weaknesses and mistakes, and gain experience. Coach Eynak invited the members of the Bilkent Community to come enjoy the Category "C" Tournament, to be held at Bilkent, between March 17 and 21. Bilkent News will feature updates about the upcoming tournament as well as the final games of the Ayva Cup.
