From the Gallery of My Mind

Hello. This week I am going to show you some of the weirdest designs you may have ever seen, as found at dvice.com!

First, I have for you the Cloud Umbrella, a design from Joonsoo Kim. I really love the futuristic feel of it. You simply pump air into the cloud and your umbrella is ready! Not that practical, but still interesting.

The second design is the Pipe Lamp! Yes, you read that right. This lamp is made from pipes. The KOZO pipe lamp is made in the DEMO/design clinic of their studio. I simply love the humor in this one.

And for the third weird design: “Looney Toons” style furniture! This is kid's furniture, designed by PoshTots, that looks like they come from straight out of the cartoons! To be honest I want one of these pieces myself.

I can't stop from thinking about how these designs encourage one to want to buy more! We will probably never see a cloud umbrella in a supermarket, but it would appear that we are no longer interested in the function of an item as opposed to its aesthetics. The most important goal in our era is to have something that is different and new. It isn't that this is a good or a bad thing; it's just the way it is.

As designers create newer and crazier things, the possibility of having something very similar to a light saber from “Star Wars” is increasing. This can lead to consumers demanding even more impossible things and, then, designers producing them. This is how the system works and, to be honest, I really enjoy the outcome. These were simple examples of different designs. There are a lot more out there and knowing that makes me feel even better!

I fare you well for now…
