From the Gallery of My Mind

alev dešimKnowing the Movie

I came across this film last week when I was looking through the newspaper: "Knowing." I had never heard of it before or seen a trailer. I only read the small plot summary on the page. With that tiny bit of information and, to be honest, low expectations, I went to see the film. To put it in a few words: I didn't see that coming!

The film starts with a familiar story, where a weird child predicts what will happen in the future. But just when I thought I knew it all, there would be another twist, then another, with the last one maybe being the biggest surprise.  I'm not going to give any spoilers here so don't worry

What I really liked about the movie is the special effects. They were finely crafted and seemed very realistic to me. The idea behind the plot is also very interesting. The colors and the light were very nicely used. It was pretty impressive seeing as I was not expecting much from the film.

It has been criticized for having too much going on, but I didn't find it hard to understand or confusing at all. It mixes mystery with some metaphysics, adds in a bit of action, and in the end, is presented as a very nice dish! The film has a lot of surprises for the audience, which kept me alert and wondering throughout. I liked the way the characters where constructed and how they where related to each other in the end. I hate movies where nothing comes together in the end. In my opinion, sometimes leaving an open end might work, but in most cases it does not. For example, in most X-Files episodes (the series not the film) I wonder how it will wrap up, and then they end with no explanation at all. That just makes me feel that the film or episode is not finished yet. Obviously, there is more to the story, but I have no clue what it could be! Well in this movie, you don't face that problem. In the end, there is a clear and relatively rational explanation to nearly all the questions raised. Plus, the film has a very unique style and gets its message across clearly!

I must also say the image quality is very good, very pure and extremely crisp and clear. I was impressed. I have never watched any other films by director Alex Proyas, but after seeing "Knowing," I regret that now.

All in all, I really enjoyed the film. If you want to have a good time and see a great movie, I advise you to see this one! I don't believe you will regret it.

Fare well…
