Each year, with the beginning of fall, the number of flu cases increase. This is why Bilkent University began a Flu Vaccine Campaign. The vaccine will be available at both campus Health Centers for staff and students. Those with Acıbadem Insurance coverage will only have to pay 30 percent of the costs.
The following people are at increased risk for complications from the flu and should be vaccinated each year:
-
Adults age 65 or older.
-
All children aged 6-59 months.
-
Adults and children with heart disease or chronic lung disease, including asthma.
-
Adults and children who have needed medical care in the past year for a chronic metabolic disease (such as diabetes mellitus), kidney disease, sickle cell disease or other hemoglobin problems (including severe anemia).
-
Adults and children whose immune systems are compromised by disease, such as the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), or are undergoing medical care such as chemotherapy
-
Children who are on long-term aspirin therapy (6 months - 18 years), which puts them at risk for Reye's Syndrome following a case of the flu.
Please note: You should not be vaccinated if you are allergic to contents of the vaccine, including eggs (used in making the vaccine), are very ill with a high fever, or have had a severe reaction to the flu vaccine in the past!
