TRT-2 has begun to air a new, weekly television series on Turkish and world poetry. Two members of the Department of Turkish Literature, Senior Lecturer Hilmi Yavuz and Prof. Talat Halman, will be featured regulars, together with author-critic Dr. Mustafa Şerif Onaran. The series, "Önce Şiir Vardı," (In the Beginning was Poetry) will be aired every Sunday from 11:15 p.m. to midnight.
The first program, entitled "Şiirin Güzellikleri," was broadcast on October 12. Future episodes will focus on Yunus Emre, Karacaoğlan, Yahya Kemal Beyatlı, Faruk Nafiz Çamlıbel, world poetry in Turkish translation, and Nazım Hikmet.
