Bilkent University now has a cricket course! Participants learn the basics of cricket - bowling, batting and fielding - using a mainly hands-on approach. This is a chance to learn the game played in London, Sydney, Karachi, Jamaica and hundreds of other cities and countries around the world.
Next summer, Turkey will play in its first ever international competition with Greece, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Estonia. Spots on the team are up for grabs and it is almost certain a few players from the Bilkent cricket course could be picked to play.
The first course began at the beginning of October, but players are still being sought, men or women, and another course will begin next semester. Students who successfully complete the course will be invited to join a cricket camp in early summer coached by an experienced English professional.
Sign up now at the Bilkent Sports Center, or e-mail spor@bilkent.edu.tr and/or mahmud@ug.bilkent.edu.tr. The course is held Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m in the Main Campus Sports Hall, and Saturdays from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Mini Football Fields.
