Bilkent University's Tourism and Hotel Management and Services Departments won the "Best Tourism Education Award," given by SKÅL International Ýstanbul, the International Association of Travel and Tourism Professionals. The "Quality in Tourism SKÅL 2008"(SKALITE) awards were given at a ceremony organized by SKÅL International in Ýstanbul on Sunday, October 26, 2008. The goal of the Awards is to raise the quality within the tourism industry.
The first SKÅL organization was established by French tourism professionals in Paris in 1934, upon experiencing the hospitality of Scandinavian people during a visit to Scandinavia. Being the first and oldest international tourism organization in the world, SKÅL stands for good health, friendship, long-life and happiness. Today, over 800 branches of SKÅL exist in more than 80 countries throughout the world.
The president of SKÅL International, Ýstanbul, Kemal Özyiðit, said, "We will continue to give these awards in the coming years to improve quality in tourism."
