Watercolor paintings by prominent artists Sait Günel and Vahap Demirbaş opened at the Bilkent Library Art Gallery last Thursday.
The opening ceremony attracted an enthusiastic crowd, artists and art admirers who had the opportunity of discuss the works on display.
Demirbaş is a well-known artist with more than 30 personal exhibitions. He concentrates on themes from Anatolian culture, many of his paintings displaying unique scenes in İstanbul, Bodrum and Hasankeyf. Demirbaş explained that he has developed his own technique on watercolor over 17 years.
Günel, who has opened more than 50 exhibitions both in Turkey and abroad, depicts humanity and nature with a technique that combines different materials such as watercolor, acrylic and oil paints. One distinct feature of his paintings is that he sporadically deforms reality and integrates it with abstractions.
"There is an abstract world beyond this one," he said, "and with such details, I try to show it."
At the exhibition, both Günel and Demirbaş emphasized that these kinds of paintings are very rare in the world because of the difficulty of the watercolor medium. This unique experience should be experienced by all art lovers. The exhibit runs until March 3 at the Main Campus Library between 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
