Toplumsal Duyarlılık Projeleri (Social Awareness Projects) held an introductory meeting on February 10 to welcome its new volunteers from different departments of the university. The crowd of students seemed simply eager to get involved in the service of helping others.
TDP coordinators introduced prospective volunteers to their ongoing projects such as the Street Lamp Project (Sokak Lambası Projesi) and Support to the University Personnel Project (Üniversite Personeline Destek Projesi). They also discussed future projects regarding inmates and youth festivals. Veteran TDP-volunteers also shared their past experiences with the newcomers.
When asked about their main aim and focus groups, one of the volunteers replied that their goal was to raise awareness by helping other people. They focus on children of low-income families, as well as Turkey's elderly citizens.
TDP is a big family of no less than 300 students that volunteer, on average, 100 hours. If you believe you can do more than watch the news and sympathize with the less fortunate, TDP is happy to welcome someone like you. The saying, "If you're not the solution, you're part of the problem," may sound cliché to you, but remember, clichés are cliché for a reason-they've been proven true many times before.
