Oktay Vural, currently the Deputy Chairman of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), visited Bilkent University on Thursday March 25, to attend a conference organized by Genç Hukukçular Kulübü to reflect upon his thoughts on the judicial system and politics of Turkey.
On the vitality of the judicial system for the state, Vural said, “Democracy depends on a well functioning and just judicial system. If the judiciary of a state is weak, democracy can no longer exist.” He argued that the judicial system is also important for citizens' sovereignty, for laws are verifiers of national sovereignty. Vural also made a few points about current debates regarding to constitutional change.
He added, “As MHP, we agree that the constitution requires some changes. However, we believe that these changes should be constructed after long discussions, so that all perspectives are represented.”
The Conference continued with questions directed to Vural by students and ended with Genç Hukukçular Kulübü presenting a plaque to Vural.
