“Throw a coin in the streets of Brooklyn in New York and chances are you'll hit a member of an achingly cool art-rock band. But while Grizzly Bear, Animal Collective and Dirty Projectors have all flirted with the mainstream, Yeasayer remained a cult concern.” - Tom Doyle (Q Magazine)
Yeasayer consists of trio Chris Keating, Ira Wolf Tuton and Anand Wilder. They debuted at South by Southwest festival (SXSW) in 2007. After SXSW, the trio released their debut album All Hour Cymbals in 2007.
Although Yeasayer was liked and their concerts were crowded enough, they could not go further than being interviewees in magazines. In 2008, they joined festivals and toured with MGMT and Man Man. This tour provided an idea for Chris Keating. He decided to use more electronic sound in their songs, which probably came up from touring with MGMT.
In February, 2010, Yeasayer released their second studio album: Odd Blood. This album can be described as electronic and progressive pop rather than folk styling.
“The intension was to make Odd Blood more electronic, make the songs more direct,” said Keating. “We set out to make a poppier album. We just wanted to clear away some of the haze from the first record.”
Keating explains, “I'm inspired by Grizzly Bear and Animal Collective, but you always want to try to do your own thing. I don't want to be retreading their paths.”
Odd Blood has already won the band agreements to perform in important festivals such as Coachella, Lovebox, and Primavera Sound. Unfortunately, Yeasayer's tour does not include Turkey, so we have to listen to them from CDs. Try this album, you will not regret it.
