Turkey’s Part in the European Knowledge Economy

euAcademics from around the world came to Bilkent for "Turkey's Participation in the European Knowledge Economy" TEPEK Conference held in October. These 170 participants gathered at the Bilkent Hotel from various universities, including academics, students and business professionals from private and government organizations. 

Participants registered at 9 a.m. with the rock group Rhydamantis providing entertainment. Ms. Deren Doğan Yavuz, Senior Program Manager in Turkish Prime Ministry Secretariat General for European Union Affairs then gave an opening speech at 9:30 a.m.

Arzu Oğuz, Director of Intellectual Property Research Centre in Ankara University, spoke next. She gave a speech on "Intellectual Property Rights in Turkey." The distinguished professor Dr. H.C. Constantin Bratianu from Academy of Economic Studies, Faculty of Business Administration, Department UNESCO from Bucharest, delivered his speech on "The Intellectual Capital of Universities."

The second part of the conference began with Prof. Dr. Daniel G. Andriessen from the Holland University of Applied Sciences, Center of Research in Intellectual Capital, Rotterdam, Netherland. His spoke about how "Intellectual Capital is the Driver of Innovation," and  was very interactive when answering the audience's questions.

Professor Kamil Yılmaz, TÜSİAD Koç University Economic Research Forum, İstanbul presented last with his "Intellectual Capital Report of Turkey."

The conference was the last in a series of TEPEK European Union, Civil Society Dialogue, Universities Grant Project events. It was also third in a series of National Conferences between Turkey, The Netherlands and Romania. Those conferences were held in Bucharest in April 2009 and in Rotterdam, in June 2009.
