Bilkent Celebrates 65th Anniversary of UN

On October 23, at the Bilkent Concert Hall, the 65th anniversary of the United Nations was celebrated with a performance by the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gürer Aykal. Featuring performances by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Ankara State Polyphonic Choir, Esin Talınlı, soprano, Aylin Ateş, mezzo soprano, Hüseyin Likos, tenor, and Tuncay Kurtoğlu, bass, performed the
Yunus Emre Oratorio Op. 26 by İzmir native Ahmed Adnan Saygun (1907-1991).     
Before the concert, UN Resident Coordinator/UNIC Director Shahid Najam addressed the gathered Bilkent community and thanked them for remembering the significance of the United Nations on its anniversary and the hope it still brings for peace in the world.

The Bilkent Laboratory & International School (BLIS) hosted United Nations Day on Sunday October 24th in their new middle school building. Students, parents, teachers, and members of the Ankara community participated in the event in which fifty-seven countries provided information, food, and music from their cultures. Entertainment was provided throughout the day by student groups from both BLIS and Bilkent University Primary School. Performances reflected the diverse community at BLIS: grade seven students sang songs form Mexico, Australia, Canada, and the United State,s while grade two students shared music from Brazil, Italy, and Japan.
