Music Show Packs Concert Hall
It was another busy Tuesday night at the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts: the parking lot was full and the Concert Hall was packed. You might think it was either İdil Biret accompanied by Naci Özgüç concert or a special BASSO performance. WRONG! It was BUPS' (Bilkent University Preparatory School) December 1 Winter Concert performed for teachers, parents, and others by more than 200 talented and hardworking students. Under the leadership of Alan Ginter, BUPS' Head of Music, Emanda Richards, Barbara Bilman, Steven Ledbetter, and Janusz Szprot prepared the students for the annual performance.

The program included the Grade Six Choir, Grade Seven Choir, Grade Eight Wind Trios, High School Choir, Cadet Band, Jazz Ensemble, and the great Concert Band, as well as a flute and two piano soloists. The choirs performed an international repertoire including Kalinka, a Russian folk song, Riu, Riu, Chiu, a Spanish folk song, Teach Me to Swing, and Sukiyaki, popular Japanese song. Piano soloist Yaprak Kutsal played the world premier of Szprot's Winter Goodbye and piano soloist Ediz Atılgan played DeBussy's Doctor Gradus at Parnassum. The Concert Band's performance at the end of the event included quite a few difficult pieces ranging from Tchaikovsky's Overture from Swan Lake to Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain.

As the proud parents and teachers left the Concert Hall, the young performers were talking about how much they enjoyed performing rather than how well they performed.
