Food Price Policy Revised

We're sure everyone has noticed the slightly higher food prices across campus. We talked with Cafeterias Manager Ayhan Daš about the increase and we got the following information.

The administration has decided to determine the table d'hote prices only and leave other eateries alone for free competition to increase prices as they wish. Consequently, the new table d'hote price was changed from 450 TL to 550 TL as of January 25, a 22.2 percent increase Daš said is in line with cafeterias' usual twice-a-year increase to match inflation.

So far, Daš says, other cafeterias have increased their prices between 14 and 25 percent. This is a new practice for cafeterias on campus. Previously, price lists were dictated to cafeteria owners. Now they can set prices as high or low as they wish. The market economy is being employed on a trial basis to see what introducing competition does to food prices. We shall wait and see.
