Two members of the Bilkent University Preparatory School's (BUPS) 12th grade class have been granted early acceptance to leading American universities. Ayşegül Necioğlu will attend Vassar College where she intends to study psychology and theater. Tenay Güvendiren will enroll at Johns Hopkins University where she plans to work on a degree in biochemistry. Both schools are among the most selective in the U.S. and regularly appear on lists of top institutions of higher education.
"We are pleased that these two BUPS students have been accepted to their first choices already and expect that the other members of their class will enjoy similar success with leading universities in England, Ireland, Canada, Turkey, Australia, and the United States in the coming weeks and months," said BUPS High School Principal Brian Meegan.
Both students were thrilled by the news and they can't wait to meet the coming challenges. "Having visited Vassar and met the students, I was positive the school was my first choice, so I am very excited about being able to attend starting in September," said Ayşegül. Vassar has such a diverse set of students and perspectives and offers an excellent opportunity to study theater. Being an hour from New York will allow me to see world-class theater productions as well."
Tenay lived in the U.S. previously, and was involved in scientific research. "I am very positive that I want to conduct biochemical research in the future, and Johns Hopkins is one of the premier research universities in the world. Being offered the chance to continue my studies at such an institution is a dream come true. I also may choose to spend time back here studying at Bilkent University, since Bilkent and Johns Hopkins have a formal exchange agreement."
Both students, like all BUPS' 12th graders, will take International Baccalaureate exams this May in order to earn advanced standing at their future universities.
