Nasuh Mahruki, the funder of AKUT (Arama Kurtarma Derneği / Search and Rescue Organization), graduated from the Faculty of Business Administration at Bilkent University in 1992.
When at Bilkent, Nasuh joined Dağcılık ve Doğa Sporları Kulübü (Mountaineering and Nature Sports Club). and was the president of the club for three years. He and his friends changed the name of the club to Doğa Sporları Topluluğu (DOST), and published an outdoor sports magazine, Doğa Sporları, a fist at Bilkent and also in Turkey.
In 1996, Nasuh started AKUT which is the first volunteer organization in Turkey that aims at rescuing people from natural disasters. Last month at the Marmara earthquake. AKUT members saved more than two hundred lives. Recentlu, AKUT has joined other international rescue operations to save lives in other countries hit by the earthquakes.
