I welcome you all to the 1999-2000 academic year. This semester started with sorrow for all of us. One of the most tragic eartquakes of the century hit Marmara Region in mid-August and Bilkent suffered quite a few loses among the students, faculty and staff. I extend my sympathies to those who lost their beloved ones...
