Update from Kaynaşlı
On Saturday, 26th February, activities at the Social Activities and Education Center at Kaynaşlı started off with the nursery for the tiny ones, courses for English and computers for various age groups, and a course to help high school students prepare for the university exams. By the next day, the word had spread far and wide, and there were hoards of people trying to get their children "registered"for some activity.

The motivation caused by this huge interest brought us together the next day to figure out what else could be done. We have selected the establishment of a library as our primary target. We need donations of all kinds of books, from fairy tales to read to the little ones, to fiction for adults. Very simple books in English would also be welcome. An encyclopedia, and all kinds of elementary, middle school and highschool textbooks (in Turkish, of course) are also necessary for our courses to coach students who are weak in Math, Science, and Turkish.

Establishing continuity in our courses is also very important. Those who have not yet put their names down, please don't think you are too late to do so. We have formed a core group of volunteers for each activity, but we are always in need of others to expand the group. Each course is coordinated in such a way that any volunteer who wishes to join at any time, is provided with information concerning what was taught last week, and what will be taught this week. Volunteers will also be provided with course material as appropriate.

Volunteering does not mean you commit youself to going there every weekend. When you apply to put your name down, please state which day or days you wish to go.

If you would like more information on any of the ongoing activities, or if you have ideas on what else could be organized, please contact the following by e-mail:

English: suehoca@hotmail.com, ewadden@bups.bilkent.edu.tr
Computers: fenmen@bilkent.edu.tr
ÖSS and math, science, Turkish: gyurtsev@ug.bcc.bilkent.edu.tr
Nursery and social activities: gokse@hotmail.com

If you want to join us, please apply to the Dean of Students' Office. Give your name, e-mail address, and state which day(s) you wish to go, and the activity which interests you most. Your activity coordinator will get in touch with you for the details.

Nermin Fenmen, Chair, CAA/CAD
