"From Dissident to President," a Photo Exhibition by Skacha
An exhibition of photos featuring Vaclav Havel, the president of the Czech Republic, in informal settings will be presented by Oldrich Skacha starting on March 21 in the library. The majority of the photos date back to the 1970s, the most difficult period of Vaclav Havel's (and all free-minded citizens of his country) life, the time of Charta 77, a manifesto against oppression and the violation of human rights. Skacha's photos show that even under the most stressful circumstances Havel and other dissidents shared a great sense of humor, enjoyed each other's company, and experienced all the joys of life that the regime was unable to take away from them.

The exhibition will consist of black-and-white photos, a medium which Skacha has always preferred. "They suit Vaclav Havel better,"he maintains. He does not exhibit official photos of Vaclav Havel, the president. Why? "Because they are in color."
