Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor:

I wish to bring to the attention of the Bilkent administration and community what I believe to be one of the most pressing issues facing us; the use of cell phones on campus. I often feel myself to be a prisoner of the inane torrent of "servisteyims", "geliyorum canýms" and "hadi bye-byes" on the Bilkent campus.

Cell phone users have repeatedly proven themselves incapable of using said devices in a civilized manner. Official prohibitions on cell phone use (such as in the library and computer labs) are not only ignored, they are flaunted. I have even witnessed the atrocity of several people charging their cell phones in the library! There will be no peace and quiet on campus until something is done. Drastic times call for drastic measures.

I believe that Bilkent must take a draconian, but necessary measure; the complete ban of all cellular phones from the Bilkent campus. We can no longer afford to remain as slaves to this technology which must be recognized for what it is; annoying, useless, and completely inappropriate in an educational setting.

Ben Ball (Graduate Student of Political Science)
