Mathematician Receives Prestigious Grant

Burak Gürel, a mathematics post-doctorate student at Bilkent University, has been awarded a research grant from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AVH) to go to the University of Paderbon in Germany. The foundation is one of the most important non-profit organizations that fund foreign scholars to carry out long-term research projects in Germany.

Burak Gürel, 27, first graduated from the Department of Mathematics at METU, and received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the Department of Mathematics at Bilkent University. He is currently doing research on integrable systems...

Nasuh Mahruki Meets Bilkenters

Nasuh Mahruki, the founder of AKUT (Arama Kurtarma Derneği/ Search and Rescue Organization), will be meeting Bilkenters for an informative presentation on "Arama, Kurtarma, ve Doğa Sporları İlişkisi" through the combined organizational efforts of DOST Kulübü and Bilkent'liyiz alumni magazine. Last 4 Days for Havel Photo Exhibition

Bilkent University Library has extended the Vaclav Havel photo exhibition until the end of Thursday, March 30. Those attending the exhibition so far have included Hatay Savaşçı, Ambassador of Turkey to the Czech Republic, and Jozef Braun, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Turkey. Savaşçı was pleased with the idea of the exhibition because he said Mr. Havel is a writer, thinker, humanist, and a stalwart supporter of the ideal of democracy. Jozef Braun commented that this exhibition provides insight into a dramatic part of the history of the Czech Republic and he hopes to bring President Havel to Bilkent in the future...
