Children to Celebrate April 23rd at Bilkent
Bilkent University, in joint cooperation with Türkiye Eğitim Gönüllüleri Vakfı (TEGV), will play host to 40 children, aged 13-14, for the Children's Day holiday weekend. The university will provide dormitory accommodation and meals to the young guests for four days and three nights from Friday, April 21 to Monday, April 24. Bilkent will also supply transportation into and around the city so the children can tour Ankara and do some sightseeing. The children, who have never been to Ankara before, were specially selected for this event from different cities where TEGV operates.

Volunteer Bilkent students will act as big brothers and big sisters to the kids while they are in Ankara. One of the students, Mehmet Germeyanoğlu, who is also a volunteer for TEGV will be a group leader.

Besides celebrating Children's Day, the children will have the opportunity to share information about their lives in their hometowns and make new friends their own age from Turkey and abroad. April 23, 1920 was the inaugural day of the Turkish National Assembly and was declared a national holiday for children by Atatürk. It is the first and only holiday in the world honoring children. On that day, children assume government offices and participate in festivities and celebrations.
