Exchange Program Open to Physics Students
European Mobility Scheme/Physics Students (EMS/PS) is a program run by the European Physical Society to allow physics students to spend time in one of 180 member universities in Europe. The program arranges for courses to be accredited by the home university. Dr. Tuğrul Hakioğlu, the coordinator of this exchange program in the Department of Physics, points out the cultural as well as academic advantages of this program for Bilkent. Foreign students who leave Bilkent satisfied with their experience encourage their friends and others to come to Bilkent as well. He adds, "The program also broadens our students' minds and helps new friendships and perhaps future collaboration to develop". Every year, a number of EMS/PS students from Europe apply to Bilkent. If they are accepted, the university provides them with scholarships which cover tuition fees and accommodation. It is also possible for students to apply for additional grants from the European Physical Society or other sources. All physics students are encouraged to apply to the program before the deadline in mid-May.

Daniel Sunhede is an EMS/PS exchange student from Sweden who majors in Space Engineering at Lulee University of Technology. He is currently studying for one semester at Bilkent. He finds the education offered at Bilkent of high quality and the people welcoming and helpful. Daniel advises Bilkent students to consider applying to the EMS/PS program. "I understand that a lot of students here attach importance to graduating from university in the prescribed time,"he says, "but such experiences don't actually engender a loss of time, and are valuable for the enriching of both one's education and social life."
