Last Saturday, nearly 300 people in all ages joined the Republic Run 99 to complete 5 kms from East to Main Campus. Professor Ümit Berkman, Vice-Rector,  started the run with a moment of silence in memory of Professor Ahmet Taner Kışlalı who was assasinated in a car-bomb assault. Rector Ali Doğramacı could not participate in Republic Run 99 for he was attending the ceremony held at Ankara University where Kışlalı was a political science professor.
 After the opening speeches, all enjoyed running through the campus. At the end of the run, the contestants received t-shirts and the top three in each age category received medals. You can find the list of winners.
As part of the awards ceremony, Sports Center organized a donation campaign to assist the earthquake victims. People purchased bottles of water to be sent to families at the earthquake site in Gölcük on the following day.
