OR Club Gets Full ESTIEM Membership
Four members of the Organizational Research (OR) Club, Görkem Bedir, Damla Ahipaşağlu, Umut Ergunsu and Arda Çetiner, recently travelled to Cambridge University in the UK to participate in the 21st Council Meeting of ESTIEM (European Students of Industrial Engineering and Management). The club's ESTIEM Committee had just completed their first year "observership" and were requesting full membership.

ESTIEM's five-day meeting in Cambridge included general assemblies, working groups, a career fair, company presentations, a panel and some very enjoyable parties. Later, the participants attended meetings in Nottingham.

The four Industrial Engineering students provided information about Bilkent University by distributing brochures about the university and giving a video-aided presentation. Their ESTIEM membership was granted with a majority vote of 37 to 40 and Bilkent's OR Club is now authorized to organize ESTIEM activities and participate in projects throughout Europe.

The next international ESTIEM activity will be a Tournament in Management and Engineering Skills (TIMES 2001) to be organized locally by Bilkent's OR Club. For this competition, Industrial Engineering students will work in teams of four and prepare case studies. Local winners will be announced on December 16 and the OR club will finance the transportation to the European semi-finals to be held in Hamburg between February 21 and 25. Finals will take place in Lisbon (March 28 - 31).

For more information on the OR Club and ESTIEM, please visit the club's website at www.ug.bcc.bilkent.edu.tr/~ork, or send an e-mail to ork@ug.bilkent.edu.tr.
