On December 21, music lovers will have an opportunity to hear Fazıl Say, the well-known Turkish pianist, present a program consisting of a selection of short pieces. Discussions complementing the music promise to be both educational and enjoyable.
Currently a resident of New York, Say was born in Ankara in 1970 and studied piano and composition at the Ankara State Conservatory. He continued his studies at the Robert Schumann Institute in Dusseldorf, and between 1992 and 1995 taught at the Berlin Academy. In New York, he won first prize in the Young Concert Artists International Auditions and was also awarded the Beracasa Foundation Prize that led to his debut recital in France's "Festival International de Radio France-Montpellier." Fazıl Say has given solo recitals in the USA and around the world, and has been a featured soloist with orchestras such as the Boston Metamorphosen Chamber Orchestra, the New York Chamber Symphony Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra and the Budapest Chamber Orchestra.
A composer, as well as a performing artist, his works include a composition to mark the 750th anniversary of the founding of Berlin, and a Double Concerto for Violin and Piano which was commissioned by the Berlin Symphonic Orchestra.
