International Essay Award Goes to Erkan Yağcı
Erkan Yağcı, a fourth-year student of Tourism and Hotel Management, has won the 1999 IIQEST-GLION ETHICS ESSAY AWARD with an essay entitled'A Key to Success'. The award was conferred by the International Institute for Quality and Ethics in Service and Tourism, an international foundation in tourism and the service industry.

When Erkan was asked about why he entered the contest, he replied, "I saw the contest announcement on our department bulletin board. At that moment I decided to write an essay on'Employment Care'a subject I am very much interested in. I just wrote and sent it without really thinking very much about it. I was astonished and delighted when I found the letter and the plaque in my mailbox, accompanied by a $100 check. It was a happy surprise for me when I came back from the U.S."

Erkan Yağcı is the first Turkish student winner of the award. Erkan told Bilnews his aim was to represent Turkey and Bilkent University internationally; he also wished to express his thanks to the Doğramacı family and all his instructors for giving him such a chance.

In the letter that Erkan received from the IIQEST it says that the foundation looks forward to seeing more participation from Bilkent University School of Tourism and Hotel Management. All you have to do is wait for the announcements and enter. Maybe this year's winner will be you...
