Bilkent Welcomes Newcomers
The orientation for new students, to be held between September 26-28, is full of exciting activities and events. Newcomers will receive valuable information about the Student Union and clubs, departments, facilities and services at the university, and also have many opportunities to socialize with their peers. This year, the orientation will be a required course for newcomers under the code'GE 100 Orientation.' However, some of the activities (see below) will be open to all, so make a note of these upcoming events in your diary!

BASSO Classical Concert and Kerem Görsev Trio Jazz Concert:
On September 26 at 8 p.m. , Bilkent Symphony Orchestra (BASSO) will perform pieces from West Side Story by Bernstein, a Piano Concerto by Gershwin, a Polka by Strauss, Joplin's Ragtime, Farandole by Bizet, and Erkin's Köçekçe. Cana Gürman will be the soloist with Alfred Michourine conducting the orchestra.

The jazz concert by Kerem Görsev Trio will be performed on September 28, 8 p.m. Both concerts will be at the ODEON, Bilkent's impressive new amphitheater. They are free and open to everyone. Enjoy...

Radio Bilkent Open-air-party:
On September 27 starting at 7:30 p.m. , Radio Bilkent, staffed entirely by volunteer Bilkent students, will be offering a grand open-air-party, open to all Bilkenters, on the grounds of East Campus. During the party, university students will talk about student life at Bilkent. There will be live music, and fireworks, accompanied with appetizing barbecued food. Not to be missed!

Club Activities:
On September 26, 27, and 28 at 6:30 p.m. , the Music Club and Folklor Araştırma Topluluğu (Folklore Research Group) will arrange concerts in front of the Faculty of Science building. Finally, on September 27 at 6:30 p.m., a dance performance will be given by Theatre Club in the C Block Auditorium.

For international students:
Between September 26-28, the International Center will offer an orientation program in the Mithat Çoruh Auditorium for new international students. The students come from all over the world.

On their first day, the students will have the chance to attend a presentation on student life at the university, and the facilities and services available on campus. This will be followed by a "Walking Tour of the Campus" starting from the Engineering Building.

On the second day, Perin Öztin, the Assistant Dean of Students will present a slide show on Turkey, highlighting many aspects of the country-all international students, faculty, and their spouses are invited to the Mithat Çoruh Auditorium at 2:30 p.m. Afterwards, Prof. Bozkurt Güvenç, will give a talk on'Turkish Culture and Turkish Identity,'and there will be time for a discussion on cultural differences and related issues. In the afternoon, students will be given a tour of their new surroundings, visiting the Middle and East Campuses, and the nearby shopping center. The orientation will continue with Workshops and tours to the city, including the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, on the last day. After 6:30 p.m. everyday, students will have the chance to meet with their Turkish peers at the concerts, parties, and other activities organized on campus.
