Discovering the Heart and Soul of Bilkent University: New Horizons with BIM
Whatever their field of study, whatever their chosen career, tomorrow's graduates will live and work in a technology driven, internationally competitive environment. "All major organizations place a high value on graduates who combine general business knowledge with solid Computer and Information Management training, plus strong communication and interpersonal skills," says Güliz Doğan, Acting Chair of Department of Business Information Management (BIM).

The BIM study program is designed to prepare its students for this challenge.
Specifically, the curriculum has three main focuses:
Management Studies: Around 35% of BIM courses, such as accounting, finance, law and marketing plus a range of supporting business studies, provides the necessary foundation in basic administrative and management skills.
BIM - Information Management: Starting with extensive hands-on experience in the use of computers and business-oriented applications, students learn to evaluate, select, implement and manage information systems. Use of the Internet as a source of information and commerce is studied in-depth, from both the user and provider perspective.
Business Communications: "People" skills are a vital component for personal success in all organizations. The program aims to graduate students who have sound teamwork and interpersonal communication abilities. To further enhance the Communications component, the BIM curriculum includes courses that focus on writing, speaking, presenting, debating and negotiating.
A Business Program with a strong Practical Focus: In addition to a 75-day summer training program, a full-semester industrial internship program allows BIM students to personally experience the demands, challenges, opportunities and frustrations of working life. "Our students rate this real-world training high among their learning experiences" says Güliz Doğan, "During their internship many students receive offers of full-time employment after they graduate."

When asked for a profile of a BIM student, Doğan mentioned that they aim to train students who have administrative and management skills with real life experience, who can communicate effectively and are fully proficient in using information technology and can apply these skills to internal and external audiences.
