Happy Birthday Turkish Republic

October 29, stands for the end of the theocratic Ottoman system and the start of the new republic in Turkish history. On October 29, 1923, Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi (Turkish Grand National Assembly) declared the country a republic and elected Mustafa Kemal as the "First President". Mustafa Kemal Pasha, the liberator of the country, proclaimed Türkiye Cumhuriyeti (The Republic of Turkey) on that day to make the nation "the state of the people"...

77th Republic Day Concert from BASSO



Bilkent Symphony Orchestra will be performing a Republic Day Concert on Thursday, October 26. Hikmet Şimşek, one of the greatest musicians of The Republic of Turkey, will be conducting the symphony orchestra. This concert is also special for Şimşek since he has completed 45 years in his career as a musician of the new Republic.
